Dr. Lysikiewicz is a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine with additional expertise in ultrasound evaluation of both mother and fetus during pregnancy. He earned his medical degree from the University of Warsaw Academy of Medicine, where he continued for a PhD, and for residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University Hospital there. In 1982, Dr. Lysikiewicz arrived in Canada, where he completed an additional obstetrics and gynecology residency program at Toronto General Hospital; this was followed by a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
After his fellowship, Dr. Lysikiewicz held several hospital appointments as a maternal-fetal medicine specialist in the Greater New York metropolitan area, along with concurrent academic posts at nearby universities. In 1996, he was promoted to chief of the Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound Section in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Westchester Medical Center. In 2000, he first came to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center as Director of Maternal-Fetal Ultrasound. In 2002, he became director of the Perinatal Lab and Maternal-Fetal Ultrasound at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, during which time he was also professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Lysikiewicz returned to St Luke’s-Roosevelt in 2006.
Dr. Lysikiewicz is a longtime expert in the use of ultrasound for fetal evaluation and diagnosis. His recent research has helped advance the use of computers to aid in measuring the volume of the fetal kidneys in utero by ultrasound. He has published 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and has presented numerous research abstracts at professional conferences. He has served as a reviewer for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and for the Journal of Perinatal Medicine. From 1998-2002, he was a site reviewer for the accreditation committee of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He is an elected member of several prestigious societies, including the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the New York Obstetrical Society, and the Polish Gynecological Society. From 2001 through 2005, he was the leader of the Computers in Perinatal Medicine Special Interest Group of the Society of Perinatal Medicine. He has received grant support for work on computerized fetal heart monitoring and labor monitoring devices.
