Dr. Richard Jaffe joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Luke's-Roosevelt in January 2001. He is both a faculty member in the Division of Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal Medicine and an associate professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is heavily involved in maternal and fetal ultrasound, and in other diagnostic tests of the fetus.
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Dr. Jaffe graduated from Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel. He received his residency training at Sheba Medical Center and Meir General Hospital in Israel, and completed a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital, affiliated with the University of Rochester, in Rochester, New York. Before his arrival at St. Luke's-Roosevelt, Dr. Jaffe was an attending perinatologist and the director of Ob/Gyn Ultrasound at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Jaffe has made research contributions regarding development of early placental circulation, and regarding the use of Doppler velocimetry in screening for ovarian cancer. He has held several editorial positions at medical journals. Since 1998, he has been assistant editior for the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, and he is also the Area Editor for Europe and North America for the Journal of Medical Ultrasound. His clinical interests include gynecologic ultrasound, Doppler evaluation, and computers in medicine.
