Community Midwifery Care is the full-scope midwifery practice of Gina Eichenbaum-Pikser, CNM, and Abby Brown, CNM, dedicated to personal, unrushed, evidence-based care.

Gina and Abby provide prenatal care in their practice office at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn, and one coming soon to Manhattan. They attend births at Mount Sinai West, at 1000 Tenth Avenue in Manhattan, in both the natural Birthing Center and on the Labor and Delivery Floor, allowing the best combination of safety and choice in the birthing process.

Gina and Abby say, “We view pregnancy and childbirth as normal and transformative processes. Just as no two families are the same, no two pregnancies or births are the same, a truth we honor with individualized and respectful care.”

Community Midwifery Care also offers intrauterine insemination, natural fertility counseling and preconception visits, and well-gyn care, including annual exams, routine bloodwork, pap smears, STI screening, and family planning/contraception counseling and prescribing.

Say the midwives, “To care for your body and take ownership of your health is a radical act. To care for each other as members of a greater community is, too, a key part of the work for social justice. Listening closely with open ears and an open mind creates a space in which people will receive the care that is right for them. We bill on a sliding scale because high-quality, respectful care should not be available to some and out of reach of most.”

Their practice is queer-friendly and gender-nonconforming friendly. Servicios también ofrecidos en español.

Gina Eichenbaum-Pikser, CNM

Gina Eichenbaum-Pikser has been a certified nurse-midwife since graduating from the Columbia University School of Nursing in 2008. Her decision to become a midwife came from a deep-seated belief in social justice, feminism, and the power of human connection as well as a profound awe of the human body. As an undergraduate student at Wesleyan University, she studied history, philosophy and literature in the College of Letters and spent a semester in Spain as well as a summer in Guatemala, where she worked with indigenous midwives. In 2012 Gina opened Community Gyn Care, focusing on fertility and holistic gynecologic care. For many years she provided prenatal care and attended births in the public health setting and is thrilled to begin offering those services with Community Midwifery Care. A life-long New Yorker, she currently lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Abby Brown, CNM

Abby Brown has been a certified nurse midwife since 2007. She received her midwifery degree from Yale University School of Nursing and her undergraduate degree in psychology from Smith College. She decided to become a midwife after seeing a woman give birth for the first time and found it to be the craziest best thing she’d ever seen. She strongly believes that all people deserve quality, informed, respectful healthcare. She has been a full-scope midwife at Bellevue Hospital Center since 2007 and joined Gina at Community Gyn Care in 2014, after returning from a few years living in London. She lives in Manhattan with her husband and their two children.
